The Brief
ABC Cooking Studio, a Japanese cooking school offering courses in bread, cake, cooking, and wagashi, wanted a retail unit lighting agency to design the lighting for their new shopping centre location.
The space needed to function as both a teaching studio and a retail unit, with lighting that was even, comfortable, and free from glare, while still feeling warm and inviting. The design also had to highlight product displays, counters, and key retail touch points.
The Outcome
We created a retail unit lighting scheme that stretches seamlessly across the entire studio, using high-level illumination to keep the space evenly lit for classes without creating a clinical feel. Product display areas and the back of the counter were accented with focused lighting to draw attention while maintaining a cohesive look.
Zoning was subtly defined through light placement, allowing different parts of the unit to flow together yet serve their own functions. The result is a versatile, professional environment that supports ABC Cooking Studio’s busy schedule of small-group lessons while showcasing its retail offering.
