We brought Nanchang Street’s historic charm to life with lighting that preserves its cultural character. The design blends tradition with modern technology across this 2km commercial and cultural district.

The Brief
In 2012, the local government in Wuxi, China, commissioned us to design a lighting scheme for Nanchang Street, a 2km stretch of historic canal-side architecture transformed into a commercial and cultural destination.
The challenge was to respect and preserve the area’s traditional aesthetic while creating a lighting experience that served both visitors and businesses.
The Outcome
We developed a cultural lighting scheme that echoed the street's and canal's heritage, using traditional-style building lighting to maintain its historic appearance. Cultural lighting displays were integrated to celebrate local identity, while focal point lighting highlighted key landmarks and gathering spots.
The result is a warm, authentic atmosphere that invites exploration, supports commercial activity, and ensures Nanchang Street continues to shine as both a cultural treasure and a thriving public space.
